Home-Based Businesses: Getting Started

December 30, 1992

I started an alterations sewing business out of my dining room with one sewing machine and and one overlock machine. For two years I took in alterations for friends and co-workers. When my daughter Stacy went to UK, I took over her room to set up a more professional sewing area. I like the old sewing machines.

Today I own a Necchi (1920's), a Domestic (1930's), a Singer Featherweight (1940's), a Round Robin (1940's), two Elna's one from the 50' and one from the 80's. Two industrial machines - one double needle and a Bonus Fur machine. Two overlocks, a White and a Singer (1980's)

Guess what….I use them all. I took them out of the antique cabinets and put them on a shelf in my sewing room and as needed take them off the shelf and put on my desk. They are set up for different types of sewing. The precision of these machines is outstanding. The history behind these machines is awesome.
